About us

IIChe Kochi Regional Centre
The Kochi Regional Centre of the Indian Institute of Chemical Engineers (IIChE) stands as a vital hub for the chemical engineering fraternity in Kerala. Established in 1976 and formerly known as the Trichur Regional Centre, it is one of the 38 distinguished regional centres of the IIChE. The Centre has grown to include more than 250 members, drawing expertise from the Kochi industrial belt, statutory bodies, and academic institutions across the northern districts of Kerala. By uniting professionals from diverse backgrounds, the Centre fosters a collaborative environment that facilitates knowledge transfer from seasoned experts.
Our Role
We recognise that the chemical engineering profession has undergone a paradigm shift. Moving beyond traditional processing, the field now spans a much broader canvas, addressing complex global challenges. The Kochi Regional Centre is committed to exploring these multidirectional developments, fostering dialogue on contemporary issues such as ecology, biomedicine, sustainable energy solutions, and high-performance materials.
Our Commitment
The Centre is dedicated to the continuous professional development of its members. We regularly organise a diverse array of technical lectures, seminars, and symposia designed to bridge the gap between theoretical knowledge and industrial application. Our discussions cover a broad spectrum of critical topics, ranging from environmental stewardship, health, and safety issues to emerging future technologies. Beyond professional circles, we are deeply invested in the next generation of engineers, actively promoting and mentoring the activities of four student chapters within our jurisdiction.
Our Parent Body
Our Parent Body, the Indian Institute of Chemical Engineers (IIChE), is the country’s premier professional body for the field. Founded in 1947 by a group of visionaries led by Dr Hira Lal Roy, the Institute was established to further the development of the chemical, petrochemical, and allied industries through R&D, design, and education. Today, the IIChE unites more than 15,000 members nationwide, and the Kochi Regional Centre is honoured to carry this legacy forward in Kerala.
Administration
The activities of the Kochi Regional Centre are coordinated by an elected Executive Committee that serves a one-year tenure. This administrative body is led by key functionaries, including the Chairman, Vice-Chairman, Honorary Regional Secretary, Honorary Regional Joint Secretary, and Honorary Regional Treasurer, who collectively oversee the Centre’s operations. Reflecting the diverse nature of the chemical engineering profession, this committee brings together experts from industry, R&D institutions, government bodies, and academia. To ensure dynamic governance and continuous engagement, the committee convenes at least once every two months to strategise upcoming programs and review the Centre’s ongoing activities.
