AMIIChE Examination

The Indian Institute of Chemical Engineers has conducted the Associate Membership Examination (AMIIChE) since 1960. This examination serves as a pathway for eligible candidates to obtain the AMIIChE Diploma, which the Institute awards upon successfully passing the examination’s three parts and fulfilling all other constitutional requirements.

The Associate Membership Examination (AMIIChE) is conducted twice annually, typically in March and September. The examination format consists of three major components: Part I, Part-IIA & IIB, and Part-III (Home Paper). Candidates can attempt one or more papers simultaneously. However, a strict Qualification Limit of 15 years from the initial date of registration is enforced, requiring candidates to pass all three parts of the examination successfully.

Eligibility and Requirements

  1. Educational Qualification: Candidates must hold any one of the following qualifications from a recognised institution: a Degree in Engineering (excluding Civil Engineering). /Degree in Technology (including Chemical Technology)./ Degree in Science with Chemistry, Physics, or Mathematics as a subject./ Diploma in Engineering (excluding Civil Engineering)/Degree in Pharmacy/Other qualifications officially recognised by the Institute.
  2. Technical Experience (Practical Requirement): All candidates, except those holding a diploma in Chemical Engineering or Chemical Technology, must possess at least two years’ practical experience through full employment in a relevant chemical engineering field (e.g., design, production, R&D, management, or education) at the time of initial registration.
  3. Note for Diploma Holders: While diploma holders may register without immediate experience, they must produce a certificate of two years’ practical experience before appearing in the Part-III (Home Paper) Examination. The project problem for Part-III is assigned only after this certificate is received.

Registration Process

Candidates aiming to appear for the Associate Membership Examination must submit a completed application form, along with the non-refundable Registration Fee, directly to the IIChE Headquarters in Kolkata. The registration process follows strict deadlines: applications for the March Examination must be received by 30 November of the preceding year, while applications for the September Examination are due by 30 April of the same year, unless otherwise notified.
