Kochi
Kochi - Queen of the Arabian Sea, formerly known as Cochin, is the second most
important city on the west coast of India. Kochi (latitude 9° 58' 0" N, longitude 76° 14' 0" E) was once an important spice
trading center on the Arabian Sea coast from 14th century onwards. The city's
economic recovery gathered momentum after economic reforms in India introduced
by the central government in the mid-1990s. Kochi had been identified as a growth
centre due to the availability of raw materials, man power and other infrastructural
facilities. The establishment of several industrial parks based on IT and other
port based infrastructure triggered the growth of the city. Over the years,
Kochi has witnessed rapid commercialisation, and has today grown into a commercial
and industrial hub of Kerala.
