Distinguished Lecture Programme on Controlling Major Accident Hazards

The Kochi Regional Centre of the Indian Institute of Chemical Engineers (IIChE), a vital hub for the chemical engineering fraternity in Kerala, recently hosted the second Distinguished Lecture Program (DLP) of 2025. The DLP is one of the regional Centre’s most prestigious annual events, during which an expert is invited to elaborate on their specialised field to the benefit of IIChE members.

The current lecture focused on the critically crucial industrial safety topic: ‘Controlling Major Accident Hazards.’ This essential program was held at Hotel Seapark in South Kalamassery, underscoring the Centre’s commitment to prioritising safety and loss prevention in the region’s industrial ecosystem.

The distinguished speaker for the program was Engineer Dinesh Govind, an experienced Process Safety & Loss Prevention Consultant. Govind delivered an in-depth presentation on the systematic and strategic methodologies for identifying, assessing, and mitigating catastrophic risks in chemical processing facilities. His talk likely covered the implementation of robust Process Safety Management (PSM) systems, the use of layers of protection analysis, and the critical role of human factors in preventing major incidents.

By dedicating this DLP to accident prevention, the IIChE Kochi Centre provided members with high-level, practical knowledge necessary to ensure the continuous, safe, and reliable operation of complex industrial plants, reinforcing its mission to disseminate information and improve understanding among chemical engineers.
